As an alternative in some cases, Complying Development Certificates (also known as a CDC) can be used for your project to get approved in just a few weeks.

What is a Complying Development Certificate (CDC)?

A Complying Development Certificate or CDC as it is more commonly known, is a type of planning approval that is meant to make building your home quicker, cheaper and easier. It's an alternate approval pathway with a certifier instead of DA through Council.

How is a CDC quicker, cheaper and easier?

Complying developments are approved in just weeks instead of the months that it typically takes for Development Applications (DA) to get approved. A CDC does not involve subjective assessment by Council or the opportunity for objections by neighbours. If your project meets all the simple rules, it's automatically approved.

What are the eligibility requirements for a CDC?

To check if your property is eligible for CDC you must check things such as whether or not your land is fire prone, heritage listed (there are multiple heritage lists), the land zoning, whether the building type is permissible, and many more. You can find more information in the State Environmental Planning Policy (Exempt and Complying Development Codes) 2008.
